Have you ever wondered why the younger generations are becoming increasingly better looking?

Well it just came across to me that this IS part of human evolution.

As Charles Darwin puts it, Natural Selection is the process where only the 'useful' (beautiful) variation is preserved.

Treasuring your belongings not after they are gone

I was screening through facebook and I came across a iPhone mobile uploaded photo of this mug that a friend had used. She commented that she has used that mug for close to 18 years.

It made me realise that I have quite a few 'ancient' furnitures/household items that I have had it at home for the longest time. The clock hanging on the wall in the living area, the dinning table, mugs at home, shelves and other carpentry at home, and many other things that have been around for at least a decade.

All these household items have been taken for granted over their useful life. We will only realise that we have taken for granted that it will serve its purpose for the foreseeable future. It may sound cliche but we only treasure the things around us when they are gone.

We should learn to really treasure the things around us as much as possible. Your parents, your belongings, whatever you have with you. :)

I guess I inherited the 'want to be in charge' genes from my dad, and 'expensive = good' mindset from mum.

But over the years, these traits seems to slowly fade away. Traces of these traits can still be found in me but not as strong as before. I am developing my own character and personalities. My beliefs, values and principles are very different from that of my parents' I quite sure.

I am now sculpting myself into 'myself'. Someone unique.

I guess thats growing up.

Income tax and my old man

Its the time of the year when every working adults file in for income tax. No doubt, my father is one of them.

I was in the midst of preparing notes for my tuition student when he budged into my room asking me to follow him to Uncle Yap's (if I didn't get his name wrongly) place, to file his income tax online.

I really don't understand my old man sometimes. He could have gotten me to do it online (directly) but he chose to seek Uncle Yap's help dragging me along. He thinks that I am incapable of doing this simple task for him.

At Uncle Yap's place, Yap thought that I could have done it for him at home, but my dad went on complaining how careless I am, that even though I completed the online file-in in a short time, I'm very careless with numbers and all. He was not at all greatful. I didn't bother to say much at Yap's place. All I did was concentrate on getting the things done and my conversations were mainly with Yap. I was ignored my dad's whining all the time in the background when we were doing the income tax. He was still nagging and complaining about me until Yap looked at me and told me, "You know how stubborn your dad can be," I made sure my dad can hear my reply, "YOU BET!"

Thats the end of the complaining part.

While doing the tax shit online, I came to realize that teenagers/young adults/Y generation people (including myself) are extremely impatient. While doing the tax filing, I could tell how careful Yap was, looking through every single detail and affirming that he was clicking on the right button before clicking on it. I admit that I was only briefly reading through the details before confirming my options. He was careful, slow but steady. And me, brief, hasty and careless (like my father said).

The only thing that I can push the blame on to is the development of the internet. How fast we are able to get information in the click of our mouse. We get whatever we want online within seconds. Anything that loads for more than 5 secs is considered snail.

We tend to miss out important details. Sometimes I wish I could slow down a little to be critical about details but the fast paced society now does not permits that. If you slow down, you're inefficient, YOU'RE OUT!

That was what I came to conclusion from this incident. I was glad that I didn't rebut on my dad's comments cause he MIGHT just be right. But nevertheless, I felt that he could have been more greatful to me for doing his tax for him. Not even a word of thanks. Thats my dad.

I'm dancing a lot more recently. Preparing for the upcoming dance recital. I'm reminded of all the things that Ann used to tell me. Slowly I'm starting to understand why she does certain stuff.

Honestly speaking, its only recently that I understood what "full-out" means. I never really knew how to "full-out" until I've attended Eve's class. I never really explored how to use my body for dance.

Life's been good in NS. Why because its end of the year and I'm clearing my leave and offs now. Damn relaxed. HAHA!

I haven't met my friends for quite a long time. I know its only been a week since the last time I met my Poly friends but its considered long enough. And Jearl, I really cannot remember the last time I saw her.

So that night after the Chamber Music Concert at NAFA, we went to Clark Quey for a drink.

We settled ourselves at AZZUCAR. Its a latin pub with live band singing to Latin songs. The pub was pretty quiet, most probably cause its a weekday. According to Matin, its mostly packed on weekends.

AZZUCAR was fun. After that we went on with more drinking in another pub and decided to smoke Shi Sha. Not a bad experience.

P.s. Ryan got himself wasted (AGAIN) at the end of the day. HAHA!

Warts. Also known as verruca, it is a rough tumor that resembles a rough blister that is caused by a viral infection, specifically, the human papillomavirus (HPV). It occurs most of the time, on the surface of your hands, foot and sometimes other parts of your body (like eye lids etc) as well.

This is what that has been bothering me for a few months now. I went for treatment for the first time today. Had a Cryosurgery performed. It involved freezing the wart, which will create a blister that will separate the wart from the epidermal layer, just like what happened to me in the picture. It was initially just the round piece in the middle. Now it has become a blister.

The treatment involved directing a stream of liquid nitrogen from a "Liquid Nitrogen gun" at the infected area. As we all know Nitrogen in liquid form is stable at -196 degree celcius, when it came into contact with my skin, I could feel the 'froze bites'. The pain is bearable. It took me a while to get used to the pain after the treatment before I could walk properly again. But that was not much of a problem.

I've got 1 day MC from today's treatment. Thats the only thing that cheered me up apart from having to wake up slightly earlier than normal so I could be at the Nation Skin Center in time. =/

Those who have warts growing on them should really consider going for the Cryosurgery. I think the cost per treatment is bout SGD80 but since I'm an NSF, the treatment fee was waived and absorbed by SAF. =D

So its been quite sometime since I've blogged. The interface for posting is different now. There's no preview button and there's no "shortcuts" to fonts and color etc. Its become the html posting format. Is it just mine or does it happens to everyone else as well? Hmm. I wonder.

Anyway, rehearsals are starting to get a little tiring. We started marching a little more than usual this week. Played more song. Sometimes I feel that marching while playing seems to be less tiring than when we're just plainly marching alone. Hmm. Think playing kinda puts tireness off our mind a little bit.

I've got to say, waiting for hours before the rehearsal is still a chore. But nevertheless, we never fail to find things to do. HAHA!

Its another DAMN TIRING day at the rehearsal. Its not the rehearsal that kills. Its actually the waiting time. We spent 90% of the time waiting before its our turn to rehearse. I'm sure they have a really good reason for that. Hmm.

Band B at Pulau Ubin and Seoul Garden

So last Tuesday, Band B went to Pulau Ubin for a cycling trip. After that was 'Makan Session' at Seoul Garden, Downtown East.

It was a whole load of fun. I think its the company. HAHA! We were split into groups and I had Staff Kay Lim, Matin, Nathaniel, Yi Xiang, Shao Ming, Ze Yu in my group. =D

I was late. Close to 1/2 hour late. HAHA! But luckily my group waited for me.

We had to take a ferry to the island which cost like S$2.50 one way. Boat ride was about 10 mins. Rented bikes for S$5. So we spent S$10 in total at Pulau Ubin.

I NEED to say that the food on the island is DAMN FREAKING NICE! I forgot to take the photo of the shop we ate at but WOOH! Its heavenly.

After Ubin, we went to Seoul Garden, Downtown East for lunch buffet. Food was okay but we had a fun time eating!

I was DAMN TIRED AFTER THAT! I only slept for an hour the night before and I'm proud to say that I went through a whole morning of fun without being cranky.

Love Hotels

Love hotels, rabu hoteru, originate in Japan. They function as a short-stay hotel (could be 1-3 hours, or more) to provide private space for couples (in a nice way, couples, but you know who else goes there..) to engage in intercourse (what kind? I don't think I need to be that specific) or maybe spend some quality time together (yeah, right).

There are about 25,000 love hotels all around Japan and they are visited close to 500 million times a year. Despite the current bad economy, they seem to be doing pretty well.

A love hotel executive for Asian P-Door in Tokyo said that they only suffered 3-4% drop in business but they have retained their 400% occupancy rate. Yes, that is 400%. This would mean that everyday, all their rooms will be used and each room would be used 4 times a day. WOOH!! Japanese seems to be doing 'intercourse' quite a lot even in such bad times. HAHA!

Some of the love hotels are themed. Hospital wards, classroom, train carriages and more. I guess Japanese quite like role playing to have these love hotels specially themed to better suit their fantasies.

These love hotels work pretty discreetly as well. Most hotel staff minimize contact with their guest. Some have payment machines outside each room just in case the guest wishes to be left unseen. Some hotels have underground car parks and provide screens to hide their car plates. Love hotels go all out to prevent guests' spouse from discovering the affair. =D

Singapore NDP 2009 Theme Song - What Do You See

I'm very impressed with this year's NDP theme song. I just saw it playing on the tele and I can't wait to share this online.

This song is by Electrico. They are a local band formed in 2003. Electrico consist of 3 members, namely, Dave Tan (vocalist & guitarist), Desmond Goh (bass guitarist) and William Lim Jr (drummer). So far, they have released 3 albums. So Much More Inside in 2004, Hip City in 2006 and their most recent work, We Satellites in 2008. Through their release, they've won for themselves several awards including 3 acclaimed albums and 2 number 1 hits in numerous top 20s.

Through their hard work in promoting the local indie music scene, they have also gained a level of recognition in Asia. They were the pioneer Singapore band to have received a nomination in the MTV Asia Awards in 2005 and once again in 2008. They have also won for themselves several other awards like the Top Local Pop Song (for Runaway) at the 13th Annual Composers and Authors Society Of Singapore (COMPASS) awards . I would believe that these young talents have more awards to win in near future. =)

The day started when I was awoken by the piercing mobile phone's ringing tone. The familiar voice belonged to Kingley. I immediately knew the purpose of his call a few seconds after answering the call, when I figured that I woke up to a Sunday morning.

He called to ask if I wanted to gym with him later in the afternoon. Just FYI, Sunday morning calls from Kingley normally means that he skipped his Sunday trainings and wants ~~to gym with me~~ me to accompany him to the gym.

I was reluctant at first but I went in the end. I knew I had to gym today. I don't remember the last time I gymed or jogged.

I need to also tell you that Kingley is the kind of person who pushes you to the max, MAXXXXXX I mean. Throughout the gym sessions, he kept asking me, "Why are we torturing ourselves on a Sunday afternoon?". I had to correct him. Its more like "Why is HE torturing us..." instead.

After gym was a sumptuous dinner with Jia Jun at Sushi Tei. Phoenix Roll from Sushi tei is like the best thing they have on the menu. Its a MUST ORDER which was Jearl introduced. I'll always feel damn blissful when I have my Phoenix Roll.

We walked around a little after dinner. Its been quite a while since I shopped in town. I saw 9021807 million things I wanna buy. Sadly, I'm not rich enough to buy all of them. I'm a poor little slave who gets paid so little, its barely enough for survival. And I shall not disclose what I'm doing now just in case I get charged. =P

Met up with Jearl back in Yishun after dinner. It's become a daily routine for us to visit Xing Wang every night for supper. Jean REFUSE to meet us even though she's part of the Xing Wang Supper club. We left for Starbucks later and then after Starbucks, there was Pasah Malam food.

I need to say that whenever I'm with Jearl and Jean, I'll be eating non-stop. All we do is eat. I need friends like Kingley to neutralize the poison by dragging me to the gym, forcing me to workout. I'm glad to say my 'mixture' of friends are pretty well-balanced.

Thinking back, I think sometimes its my spending patterns that makes me so poor. I spend quite a lot on food. The budget spent on food today sums up to about... S$45? Oops! So its actually my spending pattern that killed my 'hard-earned' peanut salary.

So in conclusion, the remedy to this "Not Enough Money" situation is to listen to Jean and stop meeting Jearl so often. Meeting Jearl less means less eating, which cuts down a majority of my spendings. I'll be a millionaire if I stop meeting Jearl for 2 hours. HAHA!

4th of July

There's been a lot of talk about 4th of July everywhere. Photos uploaded on photobucket.com, people talking about it in facebook, blogs, youtube, ALMOST EVERYWHERE. So being curious, I went to research what's so special about this day.

So after much reading, I've learnt that 4th of July is actually the Independence Day for United States of America.

USA declared independence on this day in 1766, so that makes USA "243 years old". USA gained independence about 200 years before we (Singapore) gain ours. Thats a lot of years man!

And I've also read from sources that the traditional ways to celebrate this day is to grill up burgers and hotdogs, attend fireworks display, drink and party!

A little like our NDP. Fireworks, performances and party at the floating platform at Marina (which reminds me that I'm burning my Saturdays away to rehearse for NDP). Come to think of it, most Singaporeans can't be bothered to celebrate National Day actually. I wonder if its the same in the States. Hmm.

Yes it took me about 2 days to figure this shit. Its a chore when you hardly have any html knowledge at all. I'm actually quite proud of myself for finishing this layout.

Once again, its a rip off materialisti-c's work from blogskin. But I've done major changes to it. Still, I wanna give her credits. =D Thanks materialisti-c!

Its Saturday again and that means there'll be NDP rehearsals.

Hey people! Its been some time since I used Blogger. I switched to Livejournal some time ago. Its a pity I can't use java scripts and edit the templates there. I'm really loving the posting style and all but its kinda regimental. Blogger seems to be more flexible.

I ~~did~~ edited this skin over the night. It was an original work from materalisti-c. She did a fantastic job but I personalized it. I really like this skin now. =)

I'm uploading some photos and it won't be long before I can post them up.
